Embracing New Technology in the Workplace

Posted By Dave Simon, Tuesday, February 28, 2012

In the past year, I’ve written a lot about new technology. Mostly, I’ve focused on security products and the rapidly changing technology within that arena. We’ve talked about how important it is to change your business strategy to keep up with the newest equipment. But there’s another growing trend that we need to heed and that’s personal technology tools and how these products can be used to improve sales, efficiency and presentations.

For example, tablets are the hottest new device in the electronic communication market, according to NPD In-Stat, a statistical research firm. Tablet use over the past year has begun to crossover from the consumer world into the workplace. NPD’s research confirms that the most common uses are for email/calendar management, note-taking and presentations.

This means a tablet could make sense for your staff meetings, explaining new installation practices to your technicians or providing updated presentations to your sales staff. Using the newest technology for day-to-day work management and communications makes sense, regardless of the size of your company.

What should you do? ESA recommends that any tool which helps improve how your company operates is a good one. For that reason, it’s logical to look at what new devices and applications are available and consider how they could be useful to you and your employees, both for internal communications and dealing with potential customers and other external stakeholders.
