Are You Overlooking Your Next Hire?

Posted By ESA Communications, Tuesday, July 03, 2012

When it comes to hiring a new employee, finding the right person can be a difficult task.  While many candidates look great on paper, there is much more beside hard skills and experience that goes into the decision-making process: You are also looking for a personality fit for your company.

An ideal candidate is someone who possesses intangible, soft skills such as honesty, integrity and openness, which can help build relationships with customers. These soft skills say a lot about the character of a potential employee and can bring added value to your company.

Often, when employers meet candidates face-to-face, they don’t always interview them with an eye toward soft skills, which means many great candidates are weeded out. Don’t overlook your perfect candidate. Before the interview, make a list of the top five or 10 qualities you’re seeking from the new hire. Most of the time, the desired skills are soft skills such as responsibility, a solid work ethic, and a strong focus on customer service.

Don’t rule out a potential employee just because he or she may not have industry experience.  You can train the right candidate. Help the security industry expand the employee pool by thinking beyond the hard skills. Find the person with the right soft skills and you can fill the job.
