Participation by ESA Members Helps Break Through Political Barriers

ESA members and industry supporters visited 110 Congressional offices in both the Senate and House during the recent Day on Capitol Hill. ESA was among dozens of trade and professional associations who were "showing the flag” for their industries and causes in our nation's capital, and the association proudly showed its impact on local communities from a life safety and electronic security perspective.

Recognition and access are two key "takeaways” from industry presentations to any legislature, whether it's at the federal or state level. Recognition means a great deal when it comes time to review bills or policies impacting security issues; access to elected officials and their top staff members plays a huge role when ESA needs their support or involvement.

Interaction by each attendee played a critical role in developing a positive federal agenda. Each member demonstrated his or her impact on their business operation, their customers, family, neighbors and industry allies. No matter where ESA members interact with their elected officials – whether it's in local or state offices or in the halls of Congress – that face-to-face interaction is an important part of our democracy.

It was also very important this year to have allies in the industry join us during our presence in Washington.

ESA networked with State Fire Marshals, representatives of the Security Industry Association, and corporate member representatives from a number of companies. This is an excellent "insurance policy” for ESA in developing positive policies to support on a federal and state level in the legislative arena.

Member participation with elected officials is a key part to supporting our industry goals.
