Ken Nelson bikes to create a world free from MS

Posted By Laurie Knox, Tuesday, October 4, 2011

Dear Friends and Family,

I am a little late in writing this to you….the MS ride was last weekend. Once again, it was a fun AND heartwarming experience. To those of you who contributed, I thank you again and tell you that I received many, many thanks from folks who are afflicted with MS and volunteer on the ride. It is quite humbling.

They are still accepting donations. The link is at the bottom of the email. If you donated and have not yet processed a company matching gift form -- PLEASE DO SO. I can help those UTC employees that need any help, just call me.

Here is a recap of the weekend for you:

The "Brookwood Gang” (neighborhood where Sheri used to live) part of the Campbell's V8 team has an annual "Carb Up” dinner for husbands and wives on the Friday before the ride, lots of fun and enough carbs for the first day!

We all assemble back in "the hood” (Brookwood hood that is) at 4:30 AM to load up the bikes and for a lox and bagel breakfast. The caravan winds its way down to the MS 150 starting point at Woodcrest Station in NJ. We take the Campbell's team picture at 6 30 and then we sneak out the back, bypassing the normal starting chute, to get on the road.

Along the way we stop for various rest stops and camaraderie with other riders, volunteers and the folks cheering the riders on.

We arrive into Ocean City, NJ around 1PM to the cheering crowds…on to the massage table, a quick chicken lunch and then collect our luggage for the short 3 block ride to the luxurious Pavillion Motor Lodge.

Then it's kibitzing and drinking until our pasta dinner at 7PM (mmm, more carbs). This year, was especially great as we were able to watch the Clemson Tigers beat up the Florida State Seminoles at Death Valley!!! More beer, Ice Cream and then much needed sleep.

We are on the road by 7 AM the next day with one of our highlights being a stop for a picture with "Bernie B” after the two bridges leading off of OC. Then the same ride back to the starting point at Woodcrest Station….where our families meet us!!

Sure makes you feel good when you see all those that are being helped along the way cheering us on!!! The ride in 2012 was on Sept 29/30 and our team is on the registration page!!! Copy this into your browser:

Thanks once again!!
