ESA joined forces with the Security Industry Association (SIA) on Jan. 31 to present a hour-long webinar, "First Responder and Security Industry Access to Disaster Areas." In this online panel discussion, state and industry experts and webinar participants discussed efforts within the Department of Homeland Security, as well as state emergency management and law enforcement agencies, to develop procedures impacting the first responder and security community.
Speakers also discussed the challenges of access to emergency zones, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that have been adopted in Mississippi and Louisiana, and other state activities now underway -- including a national approach to the issue of "access.” Other topics included emergency response planning; access control, resources and training; and technology currently available to first responders.
Thanks again to all the participants, and to moderator Bob McVeigh, vice president and
general manager of Security Solutions Inc. in Norwalk, Conn. McVeigh is chair
of ESA’s Industry Affairs committee, and a past president of the Connecticut
Alarm and Systems Integrators Association (CASIA), a Chartered Chapter of ESA.
