ESA members experience another successful Day on Capitol Hill

Posted By Bob Ogle, Tuesday, April 24, 2012

Government Relations is one of ESA’s most valuable member benefits, and the association’s annual Day on Capitol Hill is our showcase event. On April 17 and 18, more than 50 ESA members gathered in Washington D.C. to meet with their Congressional representatives, and also to attend a number of networking opportunities sponsored by our Executive Strategic Partners:

  • A special, behind-the-scenes tour of the U.S. Capitol building, sponsored by Diamond-level ESP Interlogix.

  • A beautiful networking reception and dinner at Sequoia restaurant also sponsored by Interlogix, featuring guest speaker Rep. Tom Reed (R-N.Y.).

  • A breakfast sponsored by Silver-level executive partners Altronix and Security America RRG.

  • A full day of meetings on Wednesday, April 18, between ESA members and Congressional representatives and their staffers. These meetings allowed ESA to speak up about the most important legislative issues, including prohibiting municipal monitoring of safety and alarm systems, allowing Federal background checks for electronic industry employees, and promoting a balanced approach for fire systems, including alarm / detection and suppression.

  • A luncheon at B. Smith’s restaurant in Union Station, sponsored by gold ESP Telguard / Tri-Ed Northern Video, featuring guest speaker Jim Cooper (D-Tenn.).

  • A networking "hospitality and debriefing,” also sponsored by Interlogix, following the day of meetings.

  • And finally, an outstanding reception at Honeywell International, ESA's Platinum-level ESP, overlooking the Capitol building. The guest speaker was Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas), chairman of the influential House Judiciary Committee.

Want to see what you missed? Check out the photos of ESA members networking on day one, touring Honeywell International on day two, as well as meeting with Congressional representatives and taking a private tour of the U.S. Capitol building in between.
