Sam Fiske Receives ESA's Sara E. Jackson Award
Association Honors Leadership and Dedication in a Volunteer Role
Irving, Texas (Jan. 22, 2014) — The Electronic Security Association (ESA) has honored industry veteran Sam Fiske with its Sara E. Jackson Award for 2014, which recognizes an ESA volunteer who has exhibited exceptional leadership skills as a member of an association committee, task force or board.
Fiske, who is general manager and chief operating officer of Smoky Mountain Systems in Franklin, N.C., is a familiar presence at virtually all of ESA's major events, working in a high-profile role as chair of the association's Membership Committee. But he also works quietly outside of meetings to provide guidance to the association on a wide range of issues.
His ability to get things done at all levels is a major reason why ESA President John Knox selected Fiske for the award, which was presented during a luncheon on January 22 at ESA's Leadership Summit in Orlando, Fla.
"Leadership is Sam's strong suit," Knox said. "He knows how to talk to people. He's good at providing direction for the Membership Committee, but he also works behind the scenes. Sam does a great job at holding people accountable, and he always does it with respect. Everything he does is with the association's best interests in mind."
Fiske started in the security business more than 17 years ago as marketing director at Smoky Mountain Systems. He has filled numerous roles at ESA since becoming a member shortly after joining the company, serving on a wide range of task forces and advisory committees. He also has been active in the North Carolina Electronic Security Association (NCESA), serving as treasurer for the past seven years.
The Sara E. Jackson Award is named in honor of ESA's president from 1950-51, and is sponsored by ESA's exclusive Platinum Executive Strategic Partner, Honeywell.
Established in 1948, the Electronic Security Association (ESA) is the largest trade association representing the electronic life safety and security industry. Member companies install, integrate and monitor intrusion and fire detection, video surveillance and electronic access control systems for commercial, residential, industrial and governmental clients. In cooperation with an alliance of chapter associations, ESA provides technical and management training, government advocacy and delivers information, advice, tools, and services that members use to grow their businesses and prosper. ESA may be reached at (888) 447-1689 or on the Web at www.ESAweb.org.
