The 2017 ESA Leadership Summit Delivered on All Fronts!
ESA Announces Morris F. Weinstock Person of the Year, Sara E. Jackson Memorial Award Recipient
& Leadership Award Winners
Irving, Texas (February 24, 2017) - Security professionals from across the country convened in Tampa, FL to “Link, Learn and Lead” at the 2017 ESA Leadership Summit. The Summit was held at the Hilton Tampa Downtown hotel February 12 -15. Over 250 security professionals met to discuss business, learn from industry experts and make valuable connections to help their businesses grow.
The 2017 Leadership Summit was buzzing with exciting developments and activity, including the recognition of several industry icons for their contributions to the industry. The announcement of the Morris F. Weinstock Person of the Year took place at the Summit. ESA Secretary, Jon Sargent, was named the 2016 Morris F. Weinstock Person of the Year during the Tuesday Interactive Session, graciously sponsored by Interlogix. The official presentation will be held at ESX during the Opening Celebration at the Country Music Hall of Fame in June.
President of Select Security, Steve Firestone, was named the Sara E. Jackson Memorial Award recipient, sponsored by Honeywell. Mr. Firestone was honored for his dedication to ESA and volunteer leadership as the Chairman of the ESA Executive Management Professionals Group. In this role, Mr. Firestone has dedicated countless hours to ESA’s workforce development, public relations and research efforts.
Security professionals spent three days learning from high-caliber speakers at various seminars, general and interactive sessions. Respected experts shared knowledge on a wide range of topics of vital importance to the electronic security industry.
Topics included burglary victim adaptations, what keeps security integration companies up at night, leading for employee engagement, how to get a grip on your business, building positive relationships, managing uninsurable risks and more.
The 2017 event brought new interactive capabilities that connected the audience with the speakers on stage, creating a live discussion with polling capabilities and interactive question-and-answer sessions.
“The beauty of the ESA Leadership Summit is its ability to combine valuable and timely topics, with outstanding presenters who are able to make it relevant to me and my organization, and a network of like-minded peers to discuss what was learned. There were a ton of 'to-dos' and takeaways from the event that will help in the coming year, but the most valuable lesson was learning from other industry leaders,” said Joseph Mitton with Select Security.
ESA also announced their Leadership Award winners. The Kentucky Electronic Security Association went home with the coveted Chapter of the Year Award. This award recognizes chapters for the services provided to members, its communications, public relations, government relations and training efforts.
President of the Electronic Security Association of Washington, Jamie Vos, took home the Chapter President of the Year award.
ESA President Angela White presented Mr. Vos with the award and stated, “The President of the Year takes the initiative to get things done and consistently supports the goals of ESA.”
