How do I register for the event and the hotel?

First, go to www.ESAweb.org/DOCH2014 and click on the link that says "Register," or the button that says "Register Now." Remember, the event is free for members until April 11; after that, members will be charged the non-member rate of $100.

Once you've registered for the event, make your reservations at the Omni Shoreham, a sophisticated, elegant setting with a great location close to dining, shopping and historical attractions. Rooms are going fast, so click here now to reserve your room  before April 7 to obtain the group rate. Reservations can also be made by calling (202) 234-0700 and referencing "Day on Capitol Hill 2014."

Save more money: American Airlines is offering ESA a special discount of 5 percent off the lowest published airfare for travel to all three Washington, D.C. area airports (DCA, IAD and BWI) when flights are booked online at www.aa.com. The promo code is 6444DB, and is valid for travel between April 25 and May 2.

What will I be doing while I'm there?

You'll represent ESA during brief meetings with Congressional legislators and their staff members. Appointments will be set in advance for you and other members from your state, and there will typically be a seasoned, experienced member of the event as a part of your team. You'll put a human face on issues that impact your business and our industry as a whole.

New: Meet state fire marshals at Tuesday's Diamond Dinner

Participants in Day on Capitol Hill will have a unique opportunity to spend time with state fire marshals. On Tuesday, the board of the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) will join attendees at the Diamond Dinner, sponsored by Interlogix. Don’t miss this chance to spend a few hours talking with state fire marshals from across the country.

New: Take advantage of pre-event preparation during April 22 webinar

Attendees can participate in a free pre-event webinar on Tuesday, April 21, at 2 p.m. Eastern / 1 p.m. Central time. ESA Government Relations Director John Chwat will provide valuable insight into the issues that will be discussed on Capitol Hill, and offer tips about how to influence the legislators and staff members you'll be interacting with, The webinar is graciously sponsored by Telguard and Tri-Ed Distribution. Click here to register.

What do I need to do to prepare?

Business attire is required, and comfortable walking shoes are also strongly suggested. John Chwat and his staff will provide you with information, including talking points and summary briefs about the issues you'll be talking about. You'll be briefed beforehand, and you'll be able to report your success afterward. All you have to do is be on time and enjoy walking through some of Washington's most impressive and historic scenery.

Will I get to meet with members of Congress?

You'll meet either with Senators or Representatives, or their staff members. Last year, there were 73 delegates from 21 states who had face-to-face meetings with members of Congress, as well as a number of meetings with high level staffers. Altogether, DOCH participants visited 96 offices in the House of Representatives and 33 offices in the Senate.

It sounds like all work and no play; is it?

Not at all. This year's event includes a Monday reception at the hotel, graciously sponsored by Honeywell, ESA's exclusive Platinum Sponsor; as well as Tuesday night's Diamond Dinner and reception, which is graciously sponsored by Interlogix, ESA's exclusive Diamond Sponsor. It's the perfect opportunity to touch base with your friends, and to make new personal connections that will last a lifetime.
