2017 ESA Leadership Summit

ESA Government Relations Program
Untitled Document

ESA offers member companies comprehensive advocacy, resources and information on legislative and regulatory issues at the local, state and federal level. ESA is the electronic security and life safety industry "watchdog" that serves to provide timely information to members on legislative or regulatory proposals that could impact our members' businesses.

ESA works closely with and supports the Security Industry Alarm Coalition (SIAC), which provides professional resources at the local level to address alarm management issues. SIAC is on the front lines with local city and county officials as well as police chiefs, sheriffs and fire chiefs to advocate best practices that are proven to reduce false alarm dispatches, thus avoiding negative outcomes like "verified response" and "no response" policies.

ESA tracks state legislation and proposed regulations on a daily basis and tags between 200 and 400 bills (out of thousands reviewed) every year that touch on the electronic security and life safety industry. We work closely with our chartered chapters to disseminate timely information on pending legislation and where chapters are not present, we communicate directly with members to keep them informed on any matter that could have a positive or negative impact upon the industry. We publish a monthly State Legislation Report that provides a re-cap of all monitored bills. We will issue legislative alerts to members and chapters on important items, such as upcoming committee hearings on important legislation, that require grassroots response.

Our State Licensing Guide is a comprehensive tool providing members with direct links to statewide licensing requirements and information for intrusion, fire, video/CCTV, access control and PERS. Our unique guide is web-based and continually updated, unlike traditional licensing guides that are published and often outdated.

ESA also maintains a permanent presence in Washington, D.C. with a government relations expert, John Chwat, providing continous vigilance on federal legislation and regulations. ESA works with a number of related industry groups like the Central Station Alarm Association (CSAA), Alarm Industry Communications Committee (AICC) and other organizations as issues arise that touch on the electronic security and life safety industry. We provide members with timely information on issues that could have a far reaching impact on the industry.

Our Government Relations Committee is composed of volunteer leaders with a passion for advocacy and staying informed on the legislative trends that impact the industry. The Government Relations Committee works with staff, related industry organizations and chapter leaders to respond in a proactive manner to pending legislation and regulations.

Each month, ESA members receive the latest Government Relations news and information through the Government Insider e-newsletter. The information includes the latest developments and trends at all levels of government and brings you up to speed on any legislation or regulation that could impact your business.

All of these resources of committed staff and volunteers add up to unparalleled advocacy for our members and for the electronic security and life safety industry. Our goal is to keep members informed and engaged. We welcome support from our members, from related industry groups and others with a passion for advocacy within this industry.
