National Training School Courses

  • Certified Alarm/Security Technician - Level I - This 22-hour foundational course provides the knowledge necessary to perform entry-level responsibilities within the many facets of the electronic life safety and security industry. Whether you are a sales representative or an installation technician, this course will prepare you to plan for and initiate a successful installation. The course concludes with a two-hour examination. (Available Instructor Led and Online)

  • NEW! Professional Fire Alarm Design - This 14-hour intensive classroom instruction, followed by a 2-hour examination, provides specific training for attendees to develop an installation plan based on field conditions and project requirements. The course will provide information needed to prepare commercial fire alarm system plans and submittal documents.  Plans should be developed by persons experienced in the proper design, application, installation, and testing of commercial fire alarm systems.  Therefore, the primary focus of this course is to provide a more advanced level of knowledge gleaned from national codes regarding proper detector selection, required coverage for specific building occupancies, as well as documentation and plan submittal requirements.  

Those wishing to attend must have completed the Fire Alarm Installation Methods course or show proof that they are NICET Level II to enroll in the course.  The Life Safety Code course is also strongly recommended. (Available Instructor Led)

  • Troubleshooting, Service and Maintenance - This 14-hour course focuses on the service, repair, testing, inspection and preventative maintenance aspects of today's electronic security systems. The first course of its kind, Troubleshooting, Service and Maintenance offers dealers/integrators an additional revenue stream and the potential for significant profits through these additional services.  (Available Instructor Led and Online)

  • Electronic Access Control - This 14-hour classroom course teaches both the theory and the practical application of locks, door hardware and electronic access control systems. Exercises culminate in an actual system design based on a given customer specification and building plan. The course concludes with a two-hour examination.  (Available Instructor Led and Online)

  • Video System Technologies - Students will acquire the knowledge needed to successfully design and install a basic closed circuit television (CCTV) system. The primary focus of this 14-hour course is on traditional methods and equipment such as analog cameras, coaxial cabling and VCRs, as well as insight into progressive and emerging technologies such as digital cameras, Network Video Recorders (NVRs), fiber optical cable and Power over Ethernet (PoE). The course includes two extensive exercises which culminate in an actual system design based on a given customers' specifications and building plans. The course concludes with a two-hour examination.  (Available Instructor Led and Online)

  • Advanced Intrusion Systems - This 14-hour course is an advanced look at design and installation of intrusion systems. Students learn how to select and apply proper detectors, control panels and communication devices in a variety of intrusion system applications. The course provides instruction on basic electronics and how it pertains to system design, component selection and troubleshooting. The course includes information on system testing and commissioning, as well as project management. It concludes with a two-hour examination.  (Available Instructor Led and Online)

  • Fire Alarm Installation Methods - This 14-hour course is ideal for individuals seeking to expand their knowledge of the installation, service and maintenance of fire alarm systems. It provides the necessary review material to prepare for NICET Level 1 and 2 examinations. This course follows the structure of NFPA 72 and is based on the most recent edition of NFPA 72 and NFPA 70. The course concludes with a two-hour examination.  (Available Instructor Led and Online)

  • Residential Fire Alarm - This 7-hour course is ideal for individuals seeking to expand their knowledge of the installation, service and maintenance of fire alarm systems. It provides the necessary review material to prepare for NICET Level 1 and 2 examinations. This course follows the structure of NFPA 72 and is based on the 2011 edition of NFPA 72 and the 2008 NFPA 70. The course concludes with a two-hour examination.  (Available Instructor Led and Online).

             New Course - Texas Residential Fire Alarm is approved by the Texas State Fire Marshal and was specifically
             designed for individuals seeking to obtain the Texas Residential Fire Alarm license. Electronic Security Association
             Fire Alarm Training School Approval No. FAS-1854887 (Available Instructor Led).

  • International Building Code - This 7-hour course teaches the practical application of the International Building Code. This course is based on the 2009 editions of the IBC as well as the International Fire Code (IFC). Instruction focuses on the fire alarm and access control requirements for most common occupancy classes that students will encounter on a daily basis, offering insights on common errors and areas of confusion. Special attention is paid to the similarities and differences between the International Building Code and the NFPA 101 Life Safety Code. The course concludes with a one-hour examination.  (Available Instructor Led and Online)

  • Life Safety Code - This 7-hour course teaches students the practical application of the 2009 editions of the NFPA 101 Life Safety Code.  Instruction focuses on the fire alarm and access control requirements for most common occupancy classes that students will encounter on a daily basis, offering insights on common errors and areas of confusion. Special attention is given to the similarities and differences between the International Building Code and the NFPA 101 Life Safety Code. The course concludes with a one-hour examination.  (Available Instructor Led and Online)

  • Understanding Electronic Security Systems - This 7-hour course teaches students the basic elements of the electronic security field including sensors, control panels and communications, with an emphasis on the need for an adequate site survey. The course stresses the importance of false alarm prevention and explores the interactions between electronic life safety/security professionals, law enforcement and fire prevention officials. The course concludes with a one-hour examination. (Available Instructor Led and Online)

  • Security Sales Essentials - This 7-hour or 14-hour course is a comprehensive modular program covering the complete sales cycle. Using visual aids, role playing, a student manual and open classroom discussions, this fast-paced program covers an in-depth sales action plan for success in commercial, industrial and residential sales. The course will provide students with an understanding of how to sell electronic security and alarm systems including a review of the sales process and with special attention offered on the 2nd day of the course covering the unique issues involved with fire alarms, access control and video surveillance systems. (Available Instructor Led)
